How to make a bow with your own hands

To make a bow with your own hands, you need a rod of oak, birch, acacia, hazel or maple about 1.8 m long. The stick should be strong, dry, elastic, without cracks and knots. If you have only thin rods, then they can be connected together into one. You can also try to make a bow from old skis.

After this, it is necessary to determine the natural bending of the rod. You should put the stick on the ground and press one of its ends and the middle to the ground. Look at the second end of the rod and you will see its natural bend.

Next, mark about 7 cm above and below the center point of the bow - this will be the handle, that is, the place for which you will hold the bow.

The top and bottom of the bow should be the same. If initially they differ, it is necessary to carefully cut off the excess wood.

The next important component of the bow is the bowstring. It can be made from improvised tools such as fishing line, twine, lace or hemp stalk. The bowstring should be shorter than the rod. At the ends of the rod, outside of the bow, you need to make notches about 3-5 cm for the bowstring. And on the bowstring you should make knots from both ends. Now you just have to pull the bowstring - and your bow is ready!
